Welcome to the "Crafty Friends Give" Blog Hop. We are so glad you could join us for Day 1 of this very special hop. Ok…now on to my project! We were asked to come up with a sweet

project that you would GIVE to a friend.  My crafty sis, Rachel, told me of this fun and simple card idea…I had so much fun making it...so now I want to pass the idea along to you!  Being a working Mom, I love the words “fun” and “simple!”  Here are the supplies I used...

The first step to this card is to get a photo with the person in the photo holding their hand up (like my daughter is…Isn’t she cute?  LOL)

The steps to making the card are so easy…At the top and bottom of the person's hand you need to put a small hole or slice where the lollipop would go. Two tips: 1) Use a flat lollipop rather than a Tootsie Pop or Dum Dum. It will just sit better. Also, be sure to put adhesive on the edges of the photo BEFORE you put the lollipop in! Trust me…

Voila!!!

If you can't tell, the picture makes it look like she is holding the lollipop. You can embellish them anyway you like. My daughter picked the colors and stuck on the hearts…You can use this card for any event, like a birthday or St. Patty’s Day..anything! I made 20 of these in one night!

Our challenge for this theme was to take photos and create a card with them... For this hop, I am using some recent holiday photos we took of my adorable kids..Caleb, 13, and Michelle, 3...

I love the colors in this photo, so I selected blue, red, orange, and green papers...Once I chose the colors, inspiration blossomed from there. I dashed through Hobby Lobby and found some great ribbon and glitter glue that pulled colors and flowers from my daughter's dress.

Here's the BEFORE photo of my project:

Flowers and Ribbon and Papers...oh my! :) Then, it was on to deciding what type of card I wanted to make. I chose a "Never-Ending" or "Magic" card. I love interactive cards, and this one blew my mind the first time I made it. It's a lot of fun and really not that difficult to make, so I had to make another one!!!

I hope you have enjoyed all the fun, fabulous, and crafty projects featured today. For my Day#2 project, I decided to create a Holiday Scrapbook layout page. Usually, I dread scrapbooking holiday photos. I never really understood why, because I love the holidays and my family gatherings. I think I figured out my problem...I can't stand the colors red and green together...

and in years past that's really all you ever see. Thankfully, now, I have seen a whole rainbow of colors to signify the holidays...

so I had a blast with my newest holiday layout. I purposely refused to use red and green..and I really love the way the layout turned out.

I started with some cool scrapbook papers I found at Archiver's. Then I grabbed all of my favorite tools and started getting colorful and crafty...I felt like a kid again!

I used the Gingerbread stamp set I bought years ago from Stampin' Up!

For the house, I used some dimension dots to make certain candies pop. I also went crazy with Stickles again to give the house some sparkle and bling. I really love how it turned out. It's much cuter in person... :)

The colors I used for the paper and to color in the images were picked to match the colorful background paper.

I plan to use this page to scrapbook our traditional Gingerbread construction. It's a real fun time...usually the house doesn't meet OSHA standards and the feds usually shut us down. LOL.but it's a great time.

Here's a photo of my guys a couple years ago surrendering to the whims of the Mom of the Gingerbread House...Don't they look thrilled. Hee hee. I love it! :)

Have Fun this Holiday!!! This hop has been a blast. Thanks again to Belinda for asking me to be a part of it. I love my new layout...I just may not dread scrapbooking this Christmas after all. :)

I am going to try to have two fun projects posted for this hop, but my work schedule has totally interfered with my crafting time...! I want to thank Belinda for asking me to participate in this hop, because it has given me an excuse to stay up and craft! Thanks so much! Ok now on to my project...

I don't know about you but the holidays tend to become so busy that the true meaning of the season gets lost in the shuffle. When I was trying to think of a project for this hop, I decided to center it around my family...

Here is what Michelle (my 3yr old) and I came up with...

~~Our Family's 25 Days of Togetherness~~

~~25 days of Family time...10 mins a day...for the 25 days prior to Christmas~~

I just love my family...but our family is busy...so busy we often do not even get to eat dinner together.

Each day during the month of December, my son or daughter will peel the number of the appropriate day of the month..and behind each number will be a name of an activity...Here is an example of some of I came up with:

Ornaments (Make and Decorate ornaments)

Garland (Popcorn garland)

Egg Nog (Try egg nog and see if we like it)

Christmas sock hop (Entire family puts on Christmas socks I bought and dance to holiday tunes)

Reindeer Games (Wii game system)

Candy Cane Hunt (Hide candy canes throughout the house for kids to find)

Gingerbread House

Lights (Drive around the neighborhood area and look at lights.)

Etc..Etc...just some quick activities to get the family together.

It's just a time to focus on spending time together...even if it's only for a few minutes.

Well, for Day 1 ... We made ornaments. At first when I suggested the entire family gather in the dining room for crafts, you would have thought I asked them to do laundry...

but once we got started, it was so nice to all be in a room together doing an activity.

The highlight of the evening was when my daughter said, "I love the family. Family do dis together, ok?"

She expressed on more than one occasion how much she loved our "family" (a word she just now started using a lot) being together. It was really nice..despite the looks on my guys' faces. LOL.

I asked each person to cut out 3 random or same shapes...and decorate them any way they like...

My daughter went crazy with the Stickles and rhinestones. My sons used up the remaining rhinestones to make a tree..and then drew a cross and what he says is Santa's "foot" coming down the chimney..I don't see it. LOL. My hubby didn't have the patience to work with stickles..so he just punched hearts and wrote our names on them. The one that says, "Dad Loves Mom" is of course my favorite! :)

I took a little more time than the rest and made a Snowman, Christmas Tree, and Star using my Stickle collection..This photo is a bit dull but if you saw these in person, they just sparkle so nicely! I love bling!
I will have to ask for Stickles for my birthday, which is in December. We used alot for this project.

Once we made the shape, I applied a generous amount of tape runner (ATG) to the back and cut some rainbow thread. I punched the same shape out and glued it to the back.

Voila...

My daughter has a little tree in her bedroom..so she made it clear that all of these are to go on "her" tree. I nicely corrected her and said these are our ornaments, so we will be sharing them...thank you very much! :) LOL

Although my project and ornaments may not exactly be worthy of this awesome blog hop, they were made with alot of love and certainly meant alot to me..

2. Crystal at Rustic Daisy. I met Crystal at a crop one night about 1 1/2 - 2 years ago...I actually think I pee'd myself from laughing the first time we met. She will say just about anything that crosses her mind and most of the time it's hilarious. Crystal is one of the most artistic people I know and has the "Taj Majal" of craft supplies! It is because of her that I even got into card making. In fact, I should start sending her my Paypal bills for craft supplies! LOL...

3. Belinda at Bee's Hive of Drama. Belinda just makes me laugh and I love that. On top of being super funny, she is crafty...which I consider a lethal combo! :) I have to be careful not to read her blog while the kids are sleeping next to me...I'd wake them from bouncing the bed and snorting from laughing. :)

4. Amanda at Crafts by Amanda. I met Amanda during a "blog hop" and card exchange. I just love her whimsical happy designs. She is also new to this card game. So fun to see what she has cooking...

5. Wendy Roo and Gilby from Gilby's Craftster. Wendy and I have partnered up on a couple of blog hops and exchanges. She is one of the sweetest and most patient person I have met in this blog world. She is also very creative and gets all of her coolest ideas from her sweet doggy, Gilby. :) Gilby, Gigi sends her licks and hugs for a speedy recovery!

6. Sarah from Simply Sarah. I also met Sarah through hopping and exchanging cards. I just love her designs and the cuteness factor that goes into most of her projects. I am a huge fan of cute and whimsical. It was always a treat to get her cards in the mail for our exchanges. They were always one of my favorites.

7. Last but not least is, Tracy from Tracy's Cricut Corner. Tracy and I both participate in September Ninth's Tacky Tuesday Challenges. On more than two occasions, I have swiped ideas from the cards that Tracy has designed. I recently discovered her blog and am a new follower. She has some of the most adorable card designs...

Hanafuda (Japanese) Birthday Easel Card

Growing up in Hawaii, I used to play a Japanese card game called hanafuda. It was the inspiration for my brother's birthday card....

Hanafuda decks consist of 4 card sets of images for each month of the year....For October, it's the deer and maple. I wanted some of the images to have a 3-D effect. I printed two of each image and ran them through my Xyron to ensure they bonded down to the cardstock to them sturdy.

After the Xyron, I posted them down to cardstock....

Using my Cutterbee scissors, I cut a few of the images out and added pop dots. The effect came out very nice...(although the photo is a bit blurry)

I made the card an easel card with the sentiment,

"It doesn't matter if you win or lose... It's how you play the game!"

Never-Ending / Everlasting Bday Card

If you have ever wanted to try a fun, easy card design, you must give the Never-Ending / Everlasting / Endless card a try....It's called "endless" or "never-ending," because as you open..you keep flipping and flipping to reveal the designs over and over again. Because it's just easier to show than to explain, please check out my quick vid:

This card looks more difficult than it was to make...In fact, I would say it was one of the easiest I've made. The only challenge is coming up with 4 designs and getting all the pieces set up in the right direction so that words aren't upside down. To me, that was fun. The best and easiest to follow directions were at Robin's Craft Room. She did the best job at explaining the process. I am simple and need simple, clear instructions.

Here is each flap...I used somewhat stiff cardstock to ensure the card was sturdy. A cool, college student friend of mine drew the dragon...I colored it in image with markers. I added some paper ribbon and accented things with Stickles. I love sparkle.

The person I made this card for loves red, purple, and green...so I incorporated those colors into this card. She loved it.

I made this Dragon card for a neighbor friend, Ashleigh. She said it was, BY FAR, the coolest card she has ever seen....You know, it must be cool if a 12 yr old says it is. LOL!

World Cardmaking Day Creations

Simple Owl Thank-You card ... I just love the owl from Wild Cards Cricut Cartridge. I use it all the time. I like to add Stickles, Googly eyes, and glasses...all WISE owls need glasses. :)

I am giving this to our assistant who completely emptied my filing pile! I created a little pocket at the bottom of the card by folding the end up and added some Owl ribbon (my favorite..hope I can find more of it). I put a Starbucks gift card in there.

This is a sympathy card that I made for another co-worker, who lost her brother. This card just "happened." I randomly chose scraps of matching colors and used a sentiment I recently purchased from Verve Stamps. I used Creative Memory paper ribbon and embellished it with Stickles. The tree was cut using the Serenade cart from Cricut. I embellished the tree with a sparkly yellow Stickle. (If you can't tell, I lovvve Stickles!)

TRICK OR TREAT

We were challenged to create a fun, quick, and simple Trick~or~Treat card or project. I am a room mom for my son’s class, so I am desperate to find a quick and easy project to pass out to his class. I cannot wait to see what everyone has created. For my project, I created treat holders using CD envelopes…

Here are the supplies I used:

CD Envelopes

4 ¾ inch squares cardstock (insert in envelope)

Halloween character stickers

Halloween ribbon

Halloween Stamps
Pop Dots
Stickles

Start with a boring CD envelope...

Cut out a 4 3/4" square piece of cardstock.

Add adhesive to the back and slide paper into CD envelope...

I love my Xyron...I put the ribbon through the machine. The ribbon becomes like a sticker.

The ribbon was cut a little bigger than the width of the envelope so they cut be foleded under and hide under the flap of the envelope. To add some bling, I used Stickles to fill in some of the dots. Each envelope I either did the orange, green, or purple dots. It added a nice accent.

You can use any Halloween stickers or cut some out on your Cricut. I found these adorable ones at Archiver's. They were so colorful and fun...I couldn't resist!

I also found this clear stamp set at Archiver's. I thought it'd go well with the cute figures.

I made 10 of these in about 2 hrs...so fun and easy!

Fill with candy or cookies. I filled mine with Halloween cookies…Fun!

The theme of today’s walk is “Makeover.” Don’t you love those makeover shows on T.V. where the place is a mess one minute and then 30mins later the place is like new?! Well, we do…Mom has been working very late all month, because of this...

She would come home in a rather cross mood after dealing with all this paper...She told me that it's all this boring black and white paper that drives her to make colorful cards and scrapbooking. Anyway, this past week, Mom finished her year end work, and now her desk at work looks like this!

Nice, huh?! Now that Mom has cleared her desk off at work, she and I started sniffing around our house..and came across THIS pile of doggie…um! Well…

Our DVD shelf in our Rec Room was a WRECK! Doesn’t this look much better?!

One night, as I was chilling out by Mom's feet as she was creating a card for her friend in our craft closet....Suddenly, I sniffed this…………ugh!

Over the past few years, we have saved our digital photos on CD’s…. A doggie up the street told me about these things called an external drive, so I suggested that Mom. It's nice and toasty to sit on... :)

It’s amazing how many years worth of photos we came across. That’s when I nuzzled Mom into making a scrapbook page in celebration of her and Dad’s 8^th anniversary…which is in October!

She used some cool paper with words like “time, weeks, minutes, etc.” and made a little clock…TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE WITH THOSE YOU Y! Mom plans to give this to Dad in a frame that holds Scrapbook pages. She plans to make pages at least once a month to display special occasions…When we are done with the page, it will go in our family scrapbook! Great idea…much better than having the photos rot on some old CD, right?! J

Banna Boo Birthday...

When my sister, Rach, called me this afternoon to ask for an idea for a card...my ears perked up! I love a good challenge, esp one involving paper! :) She is planning a birthday party for my niece, Brianna..who we lovingly call, "Banna Boo...Miss Boo..Queen Boo..."

(Whatever her royal highness is going by these days! LOL!)

Anyway, her bday is coming up in a few weeks, so my sister wanted an easy-to-make birthday invitation with a mermaid on it. I did a Google search for "Mermaid" and "Clam" Coloring Pages...This is what I found...and they were free.

I cut and pasted them into PowerPoint to manipulate the angle and sizes of the images...The clam was facing the opposite way, and I wanted it to be at the correct angle to match the way the mermaid was sitting. Once I was happy with that, I printed the images out onto plain white paper and then cut the images out. Colored them with Copic markers and water color pencils. I backed the Mermaid in dark brown card stock and trimmed it along the edges...For the shell, I colored it blue and then pasted the shell on a scrap piece of blue card stock...

I measured (eye-balled) a spot on my Martha scoreboard, just above the tip of the shell...SCORE! (sorry Football on the brain)...

This score line will be the top crease of the card.

I wanted the card to be the shape of the shell, so once the image was glued to the blue paper and while the paper is folded in half, I cut along the edge of the shell. Doing this ensure both top and bottom will match.

Then, I attached Ms. Mermaid to the shell using pop dots to give it some dimension. I went Stickle-crazy on the mermaids bikini top and fins. You should see it sparkle under the light. So cool...I love bling! :)

The invite info would go inside the card...but to add some extra fun and surprise, I used my frosted, pearly white Stickle and glopped a big dot on the inside flap. It's a PEARL! It looks really cool, but I would have rather used a pearl bead or a pearl sticker. It still looks cute enough for our little princess, Boo!!!

Tacky Tuesday Challenge 10: "Raise the Ruff..."

Here is my submission for this month's "Tacky Tuesday" challenge...The outside says, "Raise the Ruff" while the inside (which I forgot to photo) said, "It's your birthday!"

I LOVE September Ninth's "Tacky Tuesday" challenges and how they give cardmaking a fun "twist." The month's challenge was to incorporate a dog image and the word, "woof" or "ruff" into the card. My sister's bday is today, so I took advantage of the opportunity (since she adores her two crazy dogs) to make this card for her. I didn't really have a dog cut that I liked, so I opted to print a photo instead. I love this photo, because Cooley (left) is winking...while Chloe (right) is howling. Crazy mutts....Ha!

It just seemed like a perfect photo for the sentiment... It's as though they are singing, "Raise the Rufff...It's your birthday!" Well, at least that's what I thought... :) Hope you have a great week!

When I was invited to participate in this weekend's Blog Hop, I jumped on it, because, for me, September is loaded with birthdays...and by participating in this hop...FOR ONCE...I will have most of my gifts and cards made early! For my project I decided to try out what is called a "MAGIC OR EXPLOSION BOX." I have wanted to make these for months now. I scoured the web for photos, techniques, and tutorials. I found this amazing blog with the most beautiful magic boxes I found on the web!!!! Check it out by clicking on the photo below:

She does amazing work...I pretend that my humble magic box looks as pretty as hers...this is my blog and I can do what I want to. :))) This one is for my Mom's birthday, which is at the end of September:

I am very pleased with how it turned out. I found the papers at Archiver's. I stamped and Stickled the butterflies to add some sparkle. I cut the outside shapes with the Stretch Your Imagination Cricut Cartridge. The butterflies are "flying" by way of thin strips of overhead projector slides. You can get a few pages from any office supply store's Copy Center. I use them all the time for projects! I whipped up a quick gift of earrings using my beading stash.

I truly enjoyed making this project, but the lid gave me FITS....After the 5th time making it (yes 5th..maybe even 6th), I started to have flash backs of high school geometry..

and was reminded why I dislike calculating measurements so much! An engineer I am not...LOL! Well, I finally figured out the whole lid thing...and I think my mom is going to love her gift! NOW onto things you are going to love...BLOG CANDY ALERT! Please read details below....

Rocker Girl Birthday Card

Crafty Sprouts is holding an "Are you Ready to Rock" challenge, which ends in 8 mins. I made this card last night and rushed to take a few photos of the card on my way out the door this morning with my iPod. I am sorry for the poor quality of the photo, but I am ready to post this challenge! :) Here is my submission:

"Hope your birthday ROCKED!" Easel card

This is the way the card would look just out of the envelope. The "Rocker" girl was drawn by an awesome friend from my church...Anndrea Ours. All I did was ask if she could draw a picture of a rocker girl, and she jumped on it! I think it turned out amazing...I wish I would have had time to take more photos of the actual artwork, but my iPod camera isn't the best at close up.

This girl looks like she is about to rock out on stage! She has purple highlights. She's rockin' purple boots blinged out in purple Stickles. Boy, did I have fun with the Stickles!...the fringe of her skirt, eye and lip makeup...even her rockin' guitar is covered in "black diamond" stickles. (Stickles are my fave!) Found some cool paper from Archiver's with guitars on one side and a faded, distressed design on the other. It just worked well with a card like this.

Again, I apologize for the iPod quality of the shot, but this is a photo of the easel card from the side. Many thanks to Splitcoast Stampers for the video on how to make this cool card. I love the way the easel card stands up. This card is for my son's stepsis, Peyton. I hope she loves it!!! Well, I am 3mins late for the challenge....until later!

DAY 2, STOP# 11 (ATUTTLETIME)

Welcome to DAY 2 of the coolest blog hop that I've ever been invited to participate. I cannot get over the amazing cards my blog friends have created for this hop. I am so excited and cannot wait to make some of them over the next few months!!!! Cardmaking is such a fun hobby, but making cards that ARE fun...priceless! Many many thanks to Monica, our awesome hostess for coming up with such a cool blog line up. Assembling such an event was no easy task!!! Monica...

Ok, on to my card creation....As with my Day 1 creation, this is my first time trying the "SWING/FLIP" card...Despite the fact that at several times this week, I have questioned my sanity and what have I gotten myself into in preparing for this blog hop??? I am so hooked on these interactive, fun cards...and who doesn't love a fun challenge!!! Certainly I do...so here we go......

This card is for my sister's bday next month...

I am so grateful to all the crafty ladies who don't mind sharing how to replicate their creations...I found some excellent instructions for this card, complete with materials list, template, step-by-step photo instructions AND video. Can't beat that...It can be found on the Splitcoast Stampers tutorials by clicking here! Their site is awesome, with so many instructions!!! The video was very helpful to watch after reading through the instructions. There is a template on the website, which was invaluable at showing how to cut/score the card. The materials I used are:

Materials:
1 piece of 5 1/2" x 6 3/4" cardstock for the card base
2 pieces of 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" cardstock for the first layer of the inside card (the portion the flips)
2 pieces of 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" cardstock for the center message

Optional: Add 1 pieces of accent paper to go behind the center message... 2 1/4" x 3 1/4" approx.

Embellishments, I used flowers and Stickles.

All the cards I make are with someone specific in mind. As I mentioned earlier, this is a card for my sister's birthday. Growing up, she and I used to love a song called "The Tree Song." For some reason, over the past few weeks this song has popped up in my head as I have spoken to her. I plan to type the chorus of the song for the inside of the card.

For the cover artwork, I used the Serenade Cricut cartridge to cut a 2 inch tree...Then, I used my watercolor color pencils to draw a peaceful nature scene and Stickles to add some bling. I purposely kept the card fairly simple and peaceful...with a hint of sparkle. I think she will love it....

Interactive Blog Hop - Stop# 11, DAY 1

For Day 1 of this 2-day blog hop, I chose Diamond Pop-Up / Spring Card

So much of this card is new to me...This is the first time I have tried to make the Diamond Pop-up/Spring card. Although it took me a while to figure it out, I love how it pops out of the envelope and stands up. I didn't get a chance to add a sentiment, but this card is going to friend, who's having a birthday. The image is a digi-stamp from LaLa Land Crafts. I just love their little Marci character. This is the "Birthday Marci." To see how the card works, click the 30 second video below:

Tools you will need: Paper trimmer, Scoreboard (I use the Martha one)

Base of Card: 5” x 10” strip (Recommend a solid 2-sided cardstock)

Accent pieces:
2 – 2 ¼” x 2 ¼” squares design/patterned paper (Cut diagonal to make two triangles ea.)
1 – 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” square solid color paper
1 – 3” x 3” square solid color paper (Recommend same as base color)
1 – 2 ¾” x 2 ¾” square solid color paper (Use for stamped or other design)

STEPS TO MAKE CARD: I highly recommend looking for a video on YouTube or Split Coast Stampers for how to make a “Spring” or “Diamond Spring/Pop Up” card. I found an awesome one here from Dawn’s Stamping Thoughts. What a great YouTube channel filled with videos on how to make some really cool cards!

At first, I struggled with this card, even with Dawn’s helpful video. To further help you, I have added some photos and tips below. Once you view Dawn’s short video and use my tips, making the card will be a breeze…It's such a fun card, and you will just love how it turns out!

o Place base paper (5x10) onto scoreboard…Score paper at 2 ½” and 5”:

o TIP: Make light pencil marks at 2 ½” score line (A1, top + A2, bottom) and at 7 ½” score line (B2, top + B1, bottom)...

o Putting these marks will provide place to line up paper on score board, when scoring a line for folding large diagonal creases.

o Tip: Use bone scoring tool for a nice, smooth crease. The better the crease, the cleaner the folds will be for the card.

o To cut top point of diamond (which is the center front of card). Align the B1 mark and C along the cutting edge of trimmer, then make the cut.

** IMPORTANT TIP: This step was not featured on the video, but I HIGHLY recommend it to ensure nice straight creases, to help the diamond pop up straight. Rather than just fold the paper at the diagonals, score the line first using the pencil marks I mention above. Just align the paper at a diagonal keeping the two opposite pencil marks (A1 and B2, for example) in same score line. Once they line up, hold paper down firmly and score a line...(Tip: To ensure papers line up properly, I drew lines on every inch of my scoreboard.)

o Once you have the lines scored, fold down creases firmly with scoring tool.

o The diagonal score lines should be folded to a nice clean crease. The creases should create a nice clean "X" right on the 5" Score line.

o Fold in sides to form the "spring"...

Fold that bottom flap under and glue bottom triangle to that flap...

o Now, you have the base of the diamond pop up card...embellish and have fun!

o For the envelope, you will want to use 5 1/2 square.

Eyes of a Child

My 3yr old, Michelle, loves to color, draw, and "make cards." If I even say the word "cards," she immediately marches upstairs for my craft closet. She loves coloring with my expensive markers and cardstock (LOL!) to draw me a "PICK-cher."

I walked in from work this evening, and she ran to me holding her latest artwork....an abstract collection of circles in red, blue, and green on white scrap paper. I was so impressed with it that I decided right there to include her artwork in my next few card projects.

For the first project, I decided to participate in Ruth's cool Tacky Tuesday Challenge currently posted on her SeptemberNinth blog. This month's challenge involved a berry or fruit of any kind and using the word, "Berry." Using my sweet little girls artwork, I created this month's challenge......

Michelle's abstract artwork serves as the background paper. I placed that on top of a royal blue cardstock cut at 4 x 6 rectangle. This will be a great card for her grandparents, who we miss "berry" much.

Next, Michelle requested that I cut out some butterflies for grandma (who LOVES butterflies). She also wanted to "color" them, so at her request, I cut a "Mama" and "baby" butterfly...which she then colored, scribbled on. I tried to touch them up a bit, but it still has her "touch." I think Grandma will be pleased...The inside will read, "Fluttering by...just to say Hi!"

I love doing things like this with my kids...not too long ago (earlier this year), I actually convinced/bribed my son to make a card for another SeptemberNinth Challenge....

Got to keep those artistic "juices" flowing somehow! :)

Happy Monday, Everyone!

Jennifer from Crafty Card Gallery asked that I fill in as a guest blogger this week while she is out enjoying some time away! I am a bit intimidated by taking on this task, because I am so new to card making and so many of you are absolutely fabulous at it...I just started making cards this year, in fact. Before, my cards looked like something my 3yr old would make, maybe even worse. LOL!...something kind of like this...

Thankfully, I am fairly creative and a fast learner, so I've graduated a bit to create cards that look a little better than my 3yr old made. :) Since I am tasked with blogging all week, I decided to challenge myself to make cards using new techniques that I have never tried...which is most of what I found on youtube and other blogs. My latest creations were inspired by the wonderful Mary from CardzTV. I just love her blog, because I really learn best by video....check her out, if you haven't before! Anyway, on to my latest creations...

I have seen Z-fold Cards before, but I didn't really get the point of them. Watching the video really helped me see the interactive quality and coolness of these types of cards. Now, I think I am hooked. I made a couple of them this past weekend...If you also need some instructions on how to make a Z-fold (or S-fold), check out CardzTV.

This one will be an inspirational/encouragement card for my grandfather, who just found out he has cancer....I just love the colors. I used a brown and cream swirl paper on white...

Then, I found some really nice sky blue paper that I just love and must get more of next time I'm at Michael's. I only had one piece! It looks just like the sky and happens to be my favorite color. I punched a small yellow circle for the sun and added some glitter to it, so it really shines like the sun. I used the palm tree from my favorite Hula girl stamp set from Stampin Up and cut it with my Bumble Bee scissors...I colored the tree using watercolor pencils and markers and added some pop dots. I am going to print off a Bible verse and write up some encouraging words to go on the inside.

This cute and colorful...overly embellished card (on purpose)...is for my 7yr old niece, Brianna. I think she will love these bright colors....I simply adore the little butterfly and turtle that I cut from my favorite Cricut cartridge, Create a Critter....

The main feature of a Z-fold card is that the outside shape (rectangle or square) or character should also have the same shape and size go on the inside. It can sometimes be difficult to ensure they overlap properly. The easiest way I've found to line them both up is to first put down the inside shape...center it, as needed. Then, line up the one on top. Once you do that, it's a breeze.

My crafting has been stuck in the islands for the past few weeks....I have really fallen in love with the Hula girl from Stampin Up! I bought this set years ago...but I have really enjoyed playing around with the set the past few weekends.

I have also played around with some other "Hawaii" themed projects recently...

I am on the look out for more stamps and projects....let's see what I can come up with.

More Scraps to Play with...

While I was putting my 3yr old to bed, somehow we started talking about a sign for her bedroom door. Then, she convinced me to make her a "surprise" with her name, sea turtles, and fish on it. At first, she also asked for a lion...I convinced her that lions can't swim, so we should stick with sea creatures...She considered...and agreed that would not be good.

After the Scraps Blog Hop, I was still inspired to use scraps for this project. Thankfully, having them all orgaznied by color, really made it easy to choose papers. Here are most of the ones I used:

I am very happy with how it turned out...The entire thing is made of scraps and took less than an hour or so to put together. I used the Create a Critter and Stretch your Imagination Cricut cartridges. Because my daughter loves the Mommy/child...Daddy/child...Sister/Brother relationship. I tried to pair up all the animals.

I was even able to draw my 13yr old son away from his video game to help me put pop up dots and goggly eyes on the sea creatures. I think the Starfishes and Turtles were my favorite...I think I will add smiles to them, though.

Turtle were definitely a requirement to this project...My daughter loves the turtles from Finding Nemo....She thinks that turtles say, "Dude" like Crush does on the movie!

I hung the sign on her knob ..so that the "surprise" would be waiting for her when she wakes up...I think she is really going to love it. Hope you enjoyed the blog hop this weekend. The rest of my home may look like a tornado blew threw it (and her name is Michelle, my 3yr old), but my craft area is organized and everything has it's place...Disorganization and piles of unknown stuff just obstructs my creative "chi" (or flow or juices..whatever you call it). Most of my craft area is very organized, but there is this one shelf....Ugh...it pains me to show this.

Do you have a shelf, corner, or drawer in your craft area that looks like this...? It's like that drawer in your kitchen ..the one that just catches stuff that you don't know what to do with. Well, this past weekend...I decided to tackle the shelf from hellf. :) I trashed or found a home for most of the items. Now the shelf looks clean...and I can focus on my crafts again.

In preparing for this hop, I wanted to try out some new card techniques. I am fairly new to cardmaking, so I search on YouTube for ideas. I found a quick video on "Pop-up" cards. The video was great to get the idea, but it left a few things off....I gathered some scraps and my Create a Critter Cricut cartridge and got started:

I decided to make a nature/wilderness themed card for my niece who is at "sleep away" camp. For the card base, I used a heavy turquoise blue, glitter cardstock scrap to look like the sky. Cut and scored paper in half. Then, I created the characters to put into the card (to pop up). I chose 3 fir trees and a raccoon. Traced and measured out the spacing for the images. I cut a thin 1/2inch spacer for the tree and then a thicker one, 1 inch, for the raccoon. For the raccoon spacer, I made it a bit longer than the tree one...so that the images would be at different spots.

I think it turned out cute...

The outside is from a scrap of paw print paper, cut the same dimension as the other paper. Sentiment says, "Have a WILD time." I also tore black scrap paper around each word to create a rough looking border....

This was a very fun card. I plan to make a few more!...

but before I do, I have some digital photos and negatives to get organized. I plan to upload all my important photos on my external driver...another weekend project...

If you use a Cricut like I do, then you have scraps. It just comes with the territory...

About a month or so ago, I became extremely frustrated with the state of my ~~crap~~ scrap pile... I found I wasted more paper, because I just didn't want to sift through the stash to find the color that I needed.

My solution: Sort scraps by color and put them into a deco-file (Mine is from Creative Memories). It took me a couple hours, but it was well worth it! Easy to maintain, saves me time, money, and frustration!

The timing for this blog hop was perfect, because now that my scraps were organized...I just needed some motivation to use up some of my scraps! Well once I started...it was hard to stop....

One day a couple months ago, I found a YouTube video on a "Peek-a-Boo" card. It was so cute that I decided to make one for my nephew-in-laws wedding....You can use it for any type of card!

Using tons of my scraps and embellishments that were just sitting around, I created probably the cutest card I've ever made...using the Simply Charmed Cricut cartridge.

I love the 3D effect of the card, how it can stand up on it's own, and the interactive feature...The bride and groom stand close to each other, but then you pull the sides out...My sweet daughter wanted to show all of you how it works....

Tacky Tuesday Challenge #7 - Nice to SEA You!

Below is my entry in the TT Challenge #7...We were challenged to make a card using a sea creature and include the word "sea" in our sentiment. I made this card as a thank you card for my family that I just visited. I just love how the fish turned out. I used the Create a Critter cartridge and some holographic (is that a word?! LOL!) paper. Not sure where I found the paper, but I love making accents with sparkly things...in this case, I made sparkly fish scales.

The sentiment reads...

Fun and cute...my kind of challenge! :) Enjoy and hope you find some time to get crafty.

Hula Birthday Card

My niece had a Hula Bday Party the other day, so I took advantage of my newly acquired (won on a blog hop) Luau Cricut cartridge. I had a lot of fun with this card. For the hula girl, it was like putting together a puzzle. Basically, the cartridge has two options. One for cutting the entire girl out and another option is to cut her arms, legs (skin). I ended up cutting out 4 times...to get various colors. I used plain white as the base, then a turquoise blue (to match the aloha print paper), then a beige for the skin, and black for the hair. I am sure there was probably a simpler less cut way of doing this...but I was in too much of a hurry to think that logically. LOL! Nevertheless, I like how it turned out!

I cut out a 4 x 12 strip of paper and then scored it at 4in and 8in to make two flaps for a bi-fold card. On the first inside flap, I added the same turquoise paper with a few cut outs that came with the aloha paper pack.

I love the way the blues all tied together...

Unfortunately, I didn't get a photo of the inside of the card. For the inside, I cut out the word "aloha" in 2 1/2 inches using the same Luau cartridge. I used gold Martha Stewart Glitter to make the word BLING. Then, I added a little "pocket" using a scrap of the aloha paper just the right size for some money..the best gift for a teen. I like this card so much...I plan to make several more. :)

June To Do List

In preparing for the blog hop today, I found so many cool things that I was hoping to work on...but I only had time for one (Martha Stewart Glitter). You can see my project at the "What's New?!" Blog Hop. To help me organize what I would like to work on next, I decided to create a Craft "To Do" list each month. I make lists for so many other things...this just made sense. It's also just practical for me to post what I'd like to do...because otherwise I will just forget. So here goes:

1. Dora Thank You cards...My daughter's bday was LAST month, and I am extremely overdue in making those. Thankfully, I only have 5 to make.

2. Martha Stewart Scoring Board. My goal for this month is to learn how to MAKE my own envelopes using this board. From what I can tell on YouTube, it should be fairly easy...but I am one who has trouble refolding a map...Let's hope I can figure this out.

3. Purple Cards for a Cause...(Click icon above to check out the blog hop). Domestic Violence prevention is near and dear to my heart. When I discovered that there was a blog hop benefitting this cause, I had to participate. My goal is to make 2 purple cards and envelopes before June 30.

4. I also have a wedding and two birthday cards to get done for July. Also, hope to fit some scrapbooking somewhere among all this, as well.

It's a lot to get done for me with my schedule...but I am pretty determined. What do you have planned for this month?

Here's are the items I decided to try out: First one- A Martha Stewart Glitter kit from Michael's...the word "GLITTER" and the butterflies caught my attention! I have never tried the "glitter technique" before...I usually just buy glittery paper or Stickles.

I also picked this cool Cricut cartridge that I won as blog candy during a blog hop from http://indymermaid.blogspot.com/. She rocks...check her out!

These two products seem to define my personality. Things that sparkle make me happy and being a Hawaiian living in Georgia, I am drawn to anything with a Hawaiian theme...so I was excited to try out both of these products for this blog hop.

The glitter kit included everything I could need to make the project, but I also bought the glitter trays to alleviate as much mess as possible. The kit includes an instruction booklet filled with design ideas and tips. Being a simple minded crafter, I appreciated the simplicity of this project...It brought me back to Kindergarten....only cooler!

I started with the Monarch butterfly chipboard. Using the little glue tube, I put a small amount of glue in the middle of the butterfly and then spread it with the sponge included in the kit. Then, using the "Orange Sherbet" glitter and tray, I sprinked the glitter on the butterfly. I wanted to see the difference, so I took a picture of half with, half without.

When I saw what the glitter did to the butterfly, I was hooked. The photos don't give it justice. I love the way the butterfly sparkles in the light and when you pick it up. I basically followed the instructions and made a similar card to the one in the book....

Although I am not very happy with this card design, I just loved the glitter effect...I then made another glittery card by incorporating my new Luau Cricut cartridge...I cut out the word, "Aloha" and added the gold and tourmalene glitter (I didn't even know that was a color...that Martha!). I put it on white paper and Aloha print paper. I like how it all turned out. I will try the other Luau shapes soon. I love the Hula girl and palm trees...

My friend's daughter, Ashleigh, was over to help....When she heard me "OOoing and Awwing" over the glitter, she begged to make a butterfly, too....

She went a "LITTLE" crazy with the glitter...so at one point, I teased her about going all "Lady Gaga" on me...

This sparked an idea for a card...

Ash went nuts with the glitter and "Gaga'd" up the photo and the word "Gaga." The glittery black on the red paper really looked pretty cool. I think Lady Gaga would be so proud...especially when I walked into the bathroom and gasped to see glitter all over my face and shirt! LOL...glitter is fun but messy...Have fun, my friends!

The theme for TuttleTime's May Card Exchange was bugs....so I played around and designed a few cute cards.

This frog card was inspired by an adorable frog card I received from a friend. On mine I added some bright checkered paper and Stickles. The sentiment reads, "Frogs are lucky! They just eat what BUGS them!"

The fun thing about this card was making the lady bugs pop off the page using a small pop dot. I also added Stickles to the top of the 'shroons for bling.

An a-DORA-ble Birthday!

Come on...Vamanos! Everybody, let's GO!...

Michelle's little friends helped me make up her Dora invitations...I just used Dora stickers I found at Michael's and added punched circles with pop dots and some glitter smiley faces to add some bling.

I designed a unique birthday card for my daughter using the Cricut and more stickers I found at Micheal's....The balloons were cut on the Cricut, as well, but I found a really great idea for how to make pop-up balloons on youtube at this neat site: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDodsjKFQ8A.

It sure made my sweet little girl VERY happy! She carried the card around to show everyone.... Have fun!!

Wow...It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!!!

I opened my front door and was greeted by a ton of packages (not all that are pictured here..but a huge group nonetheless). I felt like a little girl at Christmas! Now...why do I have all these wonderful packages, you might ask...

Well, I manage an awesome Facebook group called, Monthly Card Exchange. The ladies that are in our group are so artistic and talented with papercrafts, whether they want to admit it or not! (You know who you are, ladies!! Ha!!) They agree to make 7-10 cards a month to exchange with other participants. I love our group, because each of us has a different style for card making.

Tacky Tuesday's Challenge# 5 ~ Cow & Moo time

I always love September Ninth's Tacky Tuesday Challenges, because it really gets my creative juices flowing. I also love the ability to be tacky and creative at the same time...because that's me! :)

For this Challenge# 5, I've created this my Moo-Moo (my Mom's nickname). I think she will be MOOO-ved. :) Ok, that's just tacky. LOL....

Anyway, the card is a full 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of navy blue cardstock scored in the middle using my newest favorite tool (Martha Stewart's Scoring board). I also played with MS's Fence punch that I discovered on the Tacky Tuesday FB page (thanks to Tracy!).

If you knew my mom, you'd know that she NEVER leaves the house without lipstick and earrings...so Mama Cow is decked out with sparkly red lips and rhinestone flower. She and the barn are from Create a Critter. I just love how she turned out.

Don't forget Mom! Mother's Day is Sunday, May 8th (which is only a few short weeks away!!).

If you can't tell from my blog, I have a tendency to lean more towards simple, whimsical, and cute cards...than the fancy, complex, triple folded cards. I am a working mother of two (13yrs old and 2yrs old), so cards have to fun and quick...or no one would get any! :) LOL...Anyway, I forgot to add this card to my Tax Day Blues line up...I sent this card to a friend who was struggling with some health issues.

I basically incorporated all things I've done before into one card. I love Create A Critter Cricut Cartridge, Stickles, and Stampin Up's Treat Cups, so it was a fun card to put together. The card is from a set of turquoise cards with a hole already in them from Michael's. Michael's doesn't carry them any more...so I'm glad I swooped them up when I did. Just thought I'd share this cute card with you...

If you know anyone who is in need of cheering up, why not whip up a quick, fun card like this.

SCRAPBOOK PAGES

I love taking photos and putting them into fun scrapbooks...

Here are a few pages I recently created:

"Sunshine and Smiles" was created using light sky blue cardstock and fun ribbon. I matted the pictures on a striped paper that had a stripe with a matching shade of blue.

The bottom of the page is lined with fun yellow ribbon with smiley-faced flowers....Using the Cricut, I made some white flowers with the "Walk in My Garden" cartridge. I drew smiley faces in the center of yellow to match the ribbon and added pop dots. The Title was cut using the "Cuttin' Up!" Cartridge.

Besides the pictures of the children, my favorite part of the page is the sun. The "Simply Charmed" cartridge has my favorite SUN! To make his shades sparkle, I added Stickles.

"Best Buds" was created with the same page colors and continued the "Walk in the Garden" for the BUDS and "Cuttin' Up!" for the title.

"Silly Goose" is a turquoise page with 1 inch borders of matching circle pattern paper. The letters were cut using the George and Basic Shapes. To add a whimsical feel to the page, I used different size letters in the word, "GOOSE," put googly eyes in the middle of the "O's," and drew on a smiley face, nose, and brow.

The Goose was cut using the Animal Kingdom cartridge.

I turned the dot of the "i" into a smiley face, using a Stampin Up punch.

CARDS

"Crabby Card" - The card has two shades of blue to separate the sky from the ocean. The crab and palm tree are cut from the Create a Critter cartridge. (The palm tree is on the page with the dinosaur). The sand is a glittery tan paper. I tore the paper for the sand to give it a layered and natural look....using the Creative Memories tearing tool: (It works great!)

The inside of the card is quick and simple...Whale is also from Create a Critter. Letters are Creative Memory alpha stickers.

Paper Playtime Challenge #43 ~ Weather

My friend, Terri, lives in MN and was feeling a bit under the weather. She posted in FB that she needed some SUN, so I created this card using the Simply Charmed sun (my favorite sun). I love the sunglasses. To add some reflective lenses to the glasses, I added golden Stickles. I also gave the sun some rosy cheeks and bright red lips (using Stickles). I love glitter. Hope you enjoy some sunshine this week!!

I noticed that my FB friend, Janis, was having a challenge on her blog, Paper Playtime. Her challenge this month is Weather...so I thought this cool sun dude would fit right in over there! Glad to play along...

I had some free time Sunday evening and worked on a few cards...

This is a "matchbook" type of card that I'm going to give my BIL. I accidentally printed off too many "Birthday Blessings" from my George and Basic Shapes Cricut cartridge...so I got creative and made another card. The card is a metallic midnight blue folded as a matchbook. The star is cut from the same paper with a white shadow. I used my Xyron repositionable adhesive, so the star can easily pop up to reveal the inside...where I plan to put a Best Buy gift card.

Here's a card that I want to give my neighbor, who is battling cancer. I want her to know that she can bug us any time, if she needs anything. I fell in love with this mushroom stamp that I found at an outlet center, and I try to find a reason to use it any time I can. I am fairly new to stamping, so I just improvised with water color colored pencils, Stickles to add nice bling to the mushrooms, and ribbon across the bottom to match the pink at the bottom of the mushroom tops. The ladybug is cute, isn't she?! :)

The Owl from the Cricut Wild Card cartridge is by far one my favorite cuts!! I love it and how you can customize it. I plan to send this card to a friend who needs some cheering up...I want her to know that I give a "hoot" for her. :)

I made my Mom a card using one of my new cartridges...the photo does not show the teal card color. It looks great with the brown tree and yellow gold bird. Have fun with this one! ...

Birthday and Graduation cards

My son's 13th bday was today, so we went to "The Real Chow Baby" for dinner. It's an all you can eat, mongolian bbq place. You pick the food and then they cook it on this large griddle/grill thing. After that, we had to come home and watch one of my Kung Fu flicks...He and I love Asian food and films, so I made him a Panda bear card (using the Create a Critter Cricut cartridge and some glittery paper). He loved it.

On the inside, I added the accessory to the panda bear, which is a bowl of noodles with chopsticks...

I added pop dots to the back of the bowl to make it stand away from the card. In the bowl, I put in folded up cash...which is a teen's favorite gift. It all turned out really cute!

This is a Graduation card I made for a card exchange that I am a part of. Let me just say, the tassel was a big hassle! I used embroidery floss, but I could never be happy with the end of tassel. I finally just gave up...I doubled up the floss and wrapped a knot with a little rolled strip of paper that I ran with adhesive. The cap itself is basically a diamond from George and Basic Shapes. The "Congrats" was cut from the Wild Card in gold yellow paper to match the tassel. Despite the work, I am happy with the card. Hope you are having fun making cards or crafting!!
