(SORRY MY VIDEO WASN'T WORKING PROPERLY..NOT SURE WHY...HOPE YOU GET TO CHECK IT OUT.)
When I was invited to participate in this weekend's Blog Hop, I jumped on it, because, for me, September is loaded with birthdays...and by participating in this hop...FOR ONCE...I will have most of my gifts and cards made early! Yay! And who would miss out on an opportunity to party with some fun and creative ladies. Happy Birthday, Susan!!!!! I hope this is a wonderful week for you! Thanks so much for the opportunity to participate! Ok, now on to why you stopped here....
Welcome to Day 1 of Susan's Bday Blog Hop (Anything Goes)! We have a great line up of crafters along with awesome opportunities to win some goodies. The details for that is below, along with a chance to win some goodies from me....You have reached Stop # 3 of today's hop. If you came from, Amber: http://pixiperfectcreations.blogspot.com/, you are in the correct spot. The entire line up is also listed below, in case you get lost....I hope you are having fun so far.
For my project I decided to try out what is called a "MAGIC OR EXPLOSION BOX." I have wanted to make these for months now. I scoured the web for photos, techniques, and tutorials. I found this amazing blog with the most beautiful magic boxes I found on the web!!!! Check it out by clicking on the photo below:
She does amazing work...I pretend that my humble magic box looks as pretty as hers...this is my blog and I can do what I want to. :))) This one is for my Mom's birthday, which is at the end of September:
To see what's so "magical" about my box, please click the quick video below:
I am very pleased with how it turned out. I found the papers at Archiver's. I stamped and Stickled the butterflies to add some sparkle. I cut the outside shapes with the Stretch Your Imagination Cricut Cartridge. The butterflies are "flying" by way of thin strips of overhead projector slides. You can get a few pages from any office supply store's Copy Center. I use them all the time for projects! I whipped up a quick gift of earrings using my beading stash.
I truly enjoyed making this project, but the lid gave me FITS....After the 5th time making it (yes 5th..maybe even 6th), I started to have flash backs of high school geometry..
and was reminded why I dislike calculating measurements so much! An engineer I am not...LOL! Well, I finally figured out the whole lid thing...and I think my mom is going to love her gift! NOW onto things you are going to love...BLOG CANDY ALERT! Please read details below....

I love your project - never saw a 3 D explosion box, the ones I have seen primarily are scrapbook ones, with pictures. I love this version and you did a great job with it. You have inspired me to try it and I love butterflies so I may have to copy yours :).

Oh dear, being math challenged myself (I can balance a mean checkbook)I can totally relate. It was worth the effort. I love butterflies as well and this project is amazing. I have made several explosion boxes and will have to try this technique. I hope it shows that I am a follower because I know that I have clicked it before. Thanks for sharing in my special birthday weekend.

The exploding box is amazing. And don't give up on geometry - it is your friend!
:)
Great job for your first time out. I couldn't get the video to load which was a bummer because I wanted to see the inside. I'll have to come back later and see if it works. By the way, I've made quite a few of the boxes and even taught friends how to make them and I'm still having trouble getting the top to fit right. Pat yourself on the back for your box.
Lovely project!
Great job! For a person with trouble getting the lid to fit correctly, you could have fooled me. Keep up the great work. I'm so glad to be in the hop with you. Hugs to you and TFS!!!
